Cornhole games are broken up into innings or frames. Each player throws four bags per inning. Cornhole bags can be thrown from the left or right pitchers box. The cornhole player or team who scored in the preceding inning pitches first in the next inning, if neither player scores, the player or team who pitched last in the preceding inning pitches first in the next inning.

Cornhole games can be played in either singles or team play, in team play, one player from each team pitches from one cornhole board and their  teamates pitch from the other cornhole board spaced 27 feet apart. Play starts with a coin toss or ro-sham-bo to decide who will throw first then players alternate throws until all four of their bags have been thrown, next the players on the other side of the court pitches their four cornhole bags from the opposite cornhole board until the inning or frame is completed. Game continues until one of the teams reaches a total of 21 points.

Keeping Score in Cornhole

To score, the cornhole bags must either be tossed into the hole or land and stay on the cornhole board. A bag that is tossed through the hole is worth three points, the cornhole bag can be tossed directly into the hole, slide into the hole, or be knocked into the hole by another bag. A cornhole bag that lands on the board and is still on the board at the end of the inning is worth one point. If a cornhole bag touches the ground and comes to rest on the board, it is removed from the board prior to continuation of play and not worth any points. After both players have thrown all four bags thier point totals are added up, the lower score is then subtracted from the higher to determine the number of points awarded the scoring team. For example: Team A has two bags on the board and one in the hole for a total of 5 points but Team B has three bags in the hole for a total of 9 points. By subtracting Team A’s score from Team B’s you end up with a total of 4 points being awarded to Team B and O points awarded to Team A. Only one team can score in any one round.

Winning at Cornhole

The first team or player to reach 21 points, wins.  Cornhole games can be played individually or tournament style.

Cornhole,  corn toss, bean bag, bean toss, bag toss, soft horseshoes, soft washers the game has many names but the rules and regulations are pretty much the same.

Supposedly the game originated in Germany in the 14th century, and then was rediscovered in the backwoods of Kentucky over 100 years ago.

Cornhole or Bag Toss is similar to horseshoes or washers except that you use wooden cornhole platforms or boards and cloth bags filled with corn or a similar material instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Players alternate turns tossing their corn filled bags at the cornhole board until a player reaches the score of 21 points. A cornhole bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point.

Cornhole is generally played tournament style with an individual player or team being named the champion at the end of the tournament.

Cornhole Boards and Equipment

Beach Cities Bag Toss Cornhole boards are 4 feet by 2 feet and have a 6 inch hole centered 9 inches from the top of the board and 12 inches from either side. Cornhole bags are a minimum of 6 inches square and are filled with corn feed or any other similar material, Beach Cities Bag toss cornhole bags are filled with recyclable plastic pellets. You will also need a chalk or dry erase board or pencil and paper for score keeping.

The cornhole boards are spaced 27 feet apart from the bottom of each board.
